Testing the Pocketwizard ZoneController

I received my new PocketWizard (www.pocketwizard.com) ZoneController yesterday and couldn’t help but fire off a few test shots of Lillian! These were shot with a Canon 50D, 3-480exII flashes, 100mm f2.8 lens, FlexTT5, MiniTT1 and the AC3 zonecontroller. The AC3 is a small device that sits on top of a Mini or Flex radio and allows manual or ettl control of remote flashes. It has 3 groups (a,b,c) that you can place your flashes into and the flash output can be adjusted for each group (or turned off completely). Everything worked perfectly and I’m looking forward to more shooting with my new AC3!

This shot is with all 3 lights turned on…I started with each flash at 0 FEC, turned the key up 1/3rd the backlight down 1/3rd and the hair light was left at 0.  The whole setup took just a couple of minutes to get the light just how I wanted it.

All 3 zones on

This one was shot with the background light at -3 FEC using the AC3.

Zone B turned off

And finally I turned off all but the background light…

Zone A and C turned off

All taken without having to walk over to the flashes and fiddle with settings…I shot with the camera in M and flashes in full ettl mode.
